Interdisciplinary research on the intersection between Gender Studies and Law has been enjoying increased attention from Scholars of various fields. Recent developments in Gender Studies, arising especially from the areas of Queer and Feminist Theories, have led to the proposal of new paradigms for the analysis of the several aspects of normativity – with important consequences for all areas of Practical Philosophy, including Philosophy of Law. A gender approach to Legal Theory and Methodology and Philosophy of Law demands a thorough reflection not only on the subjects chosen for investigation but also on the way these fields have been developing, especially with respect to the employed methodology. An understanding of Law that critically questions the foundations of its own structure, and therefore does not postulate man (and man alone) as being the sole measure of all things (frequently presented as a neutral parameter), plays an essential part in the task of achieving social, political and economic gender equality. Such a perspective is essential to rethink Legal Theory within the current challenges of the rule of law and democracy.

Considering the interdisciplinary nature of the topic – and building on the discussions initiated during the First International Workshop on Gender Issues in Philosophy of Law and Legal Reasoning (held during IVR2022, Bucharest) – the Second International Workshop on Gender Issues in Philosophy of Law and Legal Reasoning (GePhil2024) shall address the various epistemic-theoretical, ethical and methodological concerns arising from a gender approach to Philosophy of Law and Legal Reasoning. Moreover, the discussion of genderrelated legal issues raised by new technologies, e.g., artificial intelligence, or arising within the realm of Legal Informatics, shall be considered, taking into account the strong bond between these new technologies and the future of democracy, in which respect a gender perspective is urgent.

Hence, GePhil2024 aims at clarifying questions such as

• How do issues arising from the field of Gender Studies contribute to the development of Legal Theory and Philosophy of Law?
• What are the implications of a transversal gender perspective upon the law?
• What are the implications of Feminist Ethics on the moral dimension of law (e.g., Natural Law Theory, Human Rights, Non-Positivism, Radbruch’s Formula)
• How does a gender perspective on Legal Theory challenge universalist and objectivist Theories?
• How do gender issues reflect on Legal Methodology and/or legal logic?
• What are the inter-relations between gender issues, Legal Theory, the rule of law, and democracy?
• Gender, queerness, and discriminatory technologies
• Sexuality, gender, and privacy/data protection
• Gender and the regulation of new technologies, e.g., platforms
• Legal/Moral aspects of Sex-Robots
• Robots and gender
• Love, sexuality, family, fertility, dating apps and their regulation

The workshop invites contributions that approach these and related questions from various perspectives, especially Legal Theory, Philosophy of Law, and Gender Studies. Accepted papers shall be presented and discussed during the workshop. A later publication of accepted papers is intended.

All interested applicants are invited to send an abstract (max. 500 words) and a brief academic CV (under 200 words), written in English, by January 15th, 2024 (early booking registration) and fill out the registration form provided in the IVR 2024 website according to the schedule provided by the Conference Organizing Committee. For non-early booking registrations, a second round for submissions will remain open from January 16th until April 10th, 2024.
