The aim of the special workshop would be twofold. Firstly, the goal is to focus upon the contemporary practice of parenthood: whether it is the frequent phenomenon in a given country/geographical area, whether it is based upon the notion of equality of both parents or practised within the traditional patterns of a greater (sole) engagement of mothers, whether the work-life balance rules are recognized and implemented, what is the scope of public authorities' engagement in nursering and child-caring support institutions?
The description of parenthood practices would aim at discerning the different models of contemporary parenthood, and at identification of factors conducive to starting or delaying of taking parents' roles.
Secondly, the aim of the workshop is to elaborate upon the nexus between public policy goals and parenthood activities. Is there a linkage between the good social order and the existence of families? If so, what is nature of this relationship? Is it to be analyzed within the public policy goals of economic development, the rise of human capital, the harmonious social relations between the generations, the development of virtues and social attitudes of generocity and solidarity? Or should one negate the connection between the parenthood and governance, as situated within different decision-making levels?
